Modern large-format printing helps solve many tasks of outdoor advertising and interior decoration of commercial or cultural spaces.
Printing materials
The main requirement for materials used for outdoor advertising is resistance to weather: moisture and temperature changes, UV and strong wind. A full-colour image is printed on:
- Paper.
- Self-adhesive film.
- Banner fabric.
- Vinyl mesh.
Materials for interiors are chosen so that the finished product does not give off a strong toxic smell.
Outdoor advertising must be visible from afar — it is usually several metres in size, but can be even larger. In this case fine detail is not needed; a resolution of 100 to 200 dpi is enough. Here are common types of large-format printing used outdoors:
- Billboard and building-wall posters.
- Street banners.
- A-frame signs.
- Mobiles.
- Life-size cut-out figures.
Print products installed indoors require high image accuracy, so they are produced at 150 to 300 dpi. Popular types of interior print include information panels, stands, signs, exhibition posters, photos or art reproductions, wallpaper and stretch ceilings with exclusive designs.
Printing equipment
Large-format printing uses inkjet, UV, laser and solvent printers. Digital equipment for printing large posters avoids misalignment and seam problems. The image is created with overlaps in mind and, even if it consists of several panels, looks seamless.
