Calendar paper, construction and finishes
The pages, cover and base of a flip calendar serve different purposes. Pages need good image reproduction and easy turning; a cover presents and protects the pad; a desk base needs to support the calendar securely.
Gloss, matte and soft-touch lamination change the surface of the selected part. Not every sheet needs lamination: choose a finish to suit the design and use. Designer board, tracing paper, spot UV varnish, foil stamping and shaped die cutting are individually quoted finishes whose compatibility must be checked for the construction.
Consider the top and bottom advertising panels on a three-month calendar, or the visible base on a desk calendar. Leave space for the wire binding and hanging hook on a wall calendar so important details remain visible.
Calendar design with your company logo
Start with the content: date grids, logo, contacts and images for each sheet. A corporate gift can feature team photos, completed projects or products; a working calendar benefits from clear dates and open space.
Before approval, check the year, month order, weekdays, grid language, phone numbers and website address. Agree which dates and holidays to mark in the artwork. Do not reuse last year’s grid without checking it.

Preparing calendar artwork for print
- Supply artwork at final size and specify the sheet count, page order and binding edge.
- Under the general print requirements, add 2 mm bleed on each side and keep important details at least 3 mm from the trim line.
- Agree additional space for wire binding, hanging hooks or folds for your construction: the normal trim safety margin may not be sufficient.
- Use CMYK images at 300–450 dpi at final size, outline fonts and check small date numerals.
- Agree separate layers for varnish, foil or die cutting when using custom finishes.
